Give Money, Make Change

POSTED ON: May 9th, 2009

The Remix Project has been receiving awards and accolades since it’s inception in October of 2006. Running for almost three years now, the program has successfully graduated close to a 120 young people from diverse backgrounds and situations through it’s programs who have gone on to comprise the backbone of Toronto’s burgeoning urban cultural and lifestyle industries.

Despite all these successes for the young people and cultural industries of Toronto, The Remix Project itself approaches a state of crises. Nearly half of its funding came through the direction of research from National Crime Prevention Canada (NCPC). Deemed a success by NCPC and even worthy of replication in other cities around the country, they are unfortunately unable to continue to fund any project past its initial “pilot” and “research” phase.

Add to this the fact that the program’s lease is up at their current location come August 31st with no chance for renewal (the building is being torn down to make way for new condominium developments) and the need for community support for the United Nations award-winning, mayor’s community safety panel priority, life and technical skills program is major.

Stay tuned for more info on our SPECIAL EVENT happening Thursday June 11th @ Circa!

P.S. I’m a Remix Project graduate. All donations are appreciated! Shouts to 1LOVETO.

Schoolin’

POSTED ON: May 9th, 2009

Random flicks of my friends & I at school on Wednesday. I usually end school at 10:50am and leave to go to work everyday. So I don’t get to spend the whole day with my girls and/or eat lunch with them. Wednesday I took the day off work and just chillaxed a bit. Check ‘em.

The real Cassie and Rihanna in this bitch!

POSTED ON: May 9th, 2009

Hung out with Lissa & Nebby today. We cracked bare jokes and had a blast doing nothing but laughing. Nebby wrote her first rap song called “Stickers on my TV” ft. DJ Lissa Monet & hustleGRL…LOL, right. Anyways, main point is that it was just one of them days where you just sit back, relax, & just kick it with your girls.

Here’s a couple of bars I came up with….

And after seeing those Rihanna pictures prior to the Cassie incident, Lissa provided a free photoshoot for Nebs & I.

LOLLLLLLLL *dead*

Anais’ Surprise 17th Birthday

POSTED ON: May 9th, 2009

Last week was Anais’ birthday. Her sister and I decided to throw a little get together at her house this past Saturday. She didn’t know about it & was totally surprised. I can’t find the videos from her birthday :[ but here are some pictures. We didn’t do nothing too big; we just invited her close friends, ate mad food, watch Game 7 of Chicago vs Boston & chilled out. We had such a blast that I forgot to take more pictures, but take a look. Owwwwwww.

Verse feat. Yung Joc – Buy You A Round

POSTED ON: May 9th, 2009

This song was sent to me a couple of weeks back but I never got a chance to get to it but I loved it within the first listen. Straight out of the Virgin Islands, with a sound that many compared to Akon and The Dream, Verse is ready to carve his own lane in the music industry. With the support of best friends Theron and Timothy of, “Rock City”, Verse is strapped with his brand new club banger entitled, “Buy You A Round” feat. Young Joc, off his debut album “Stories Of A Bachelor” with Interscope. Check out “Buy You A Round” featuring Verse & Yung Joc.

3 Generations of Urban Portraiture

POSTED ON: May 9th, 2009

Last Friday, I went on a little field trip with some of The Remix Project’s creative arts participants. We went to a CONTACT Photography Show “3 Generations of Urban Portraiture”, featuring Toronto’s own Steve Carty, Che Kothari and New York photographer Jamel Shabazz. We hit shut down Dundas Street at the Jerome Jenner Gallery. The show was amazing although I had to head out early. I took loads of pics & Brock from 1LoveT.O. got some video footage. Check it out below & then scroll down for some pics courtesy of yaGRL. I love Toronto.
