Start by introducing yourself. Who is Diggy Simmons?
Diggy Simmons is a 14 year old hip hop artist, designer, and an all around go getter.

Those are a bunch of different qualities. What do you consider your main hustle?
Everything I do is my main hustle really. If I focus on one [hustle, then] some one’s going to creep up and take my spot so I keep a balance in keeping both in equal importance.

Well said. You started rapping at the age of 5 but then you stopped. Any particular reason why?
Well I had a deal on the table at the time when I was around 7 or 8 but I guess it feel through I’m not even sure what happened but after that I just stopped taking rap serious because I was young and you need someone there that’s going to tell you what to do obviously, but I still wrote [songs].

Who offered you a deal?
[I’m] not even sure I was so young like [in the] 2nd grade.

Aw, all right. So you just dropped your 1st mixtape The First Flight and it’s absolutely well done. Were you nervous to put out the mixtape or did you have any doubt in your mind because of the expected criticism?
Well going into everything, I knew off the bat I would be ridiculed with out a doubt and then of course get love too because many would understand and respect what I’m doing after they heard but at least 100% of the people were skeptical going into listening because of where I came from and because it’s quote on quote “all of the sudden” when I’m starting to take it serious the same age many emcee’s do, and I released point to prove as my single on the tape for more then it just sounded good but to let people know that everything I’m doing is independent without my uncle, without my dad, and brother and I even said in one of the rhymes “You know they probably gonna say his daddy made a phone call but he probably hearing this the same time as all ya’ll” which is all true he didn’t even know much about the tape let alone didn’t hear it til about two weeks after and astonished with it. So that was vital for me to release before the tape so everyone knew what they were gonna get.

Knowing that your father had no involvement in the making of the mixtape, how does your family feel about the mixtape’s outcome?
So proud, to the point where if we were to meet Obama my mom would tell him about it (laughs)

How do you distinguish Daniel Simmons and Diggy?
Daniel Simmons is about FAMILY and FRIENDS and Diggy’s about BUSINESS, and for the past five months Diggy’s has been turned on basically at all times which isn’t good, haven’t found that balance yet.

Is there anything you miss about being Diggy Simmons?
Public School only from time to time because I kind of want that experience of it all and I want to play high school ball.

Very true. Is basketball your favourite sport?
Indeed it is, when I was in the fifth grade I remember they used to play me all four quarters and the other coaches used to say take him out because I scored the majority of the teams point (laughs)

Now that we know what your favourite sport is, what’s one thing people don’t know about you?
The show really feels like it reveals it all (laughs)

I am pretty sure all the girls go crazy for you and you’re 14. How do you deal with the females?
I’m just nice to all of them because I appreciate their support for real like, I just stay humbled by it all because I know that all of this doesn’t have to be before me.

Are you single?
I don’t really like talking about my love life but yeah.

Okay, so let’s move one. Do you get inspiration from any other teen rappers? If so, which ones?
No not so much, but I think Young Jinsu is a great lyricist especially out of all the music that’s coming out of young people today.

I noticed that you had different variations of beats on your mixtape. What producers did your feature on it?
Black the beast, Neako, Young Jerz, and Natural Disaster

Are there any producers in particular that you would love to work with?
I have a lot of producers I like but none I can name off the top at the moment.
