Meet Los Angeles’ New Rising Star, Tinashe

Tinashe Jorgenson Kachingwe otherwise known as Tinashe is one of Los Angeles’ newest talents to emerge on the scene. Originally from Lexington, Kentucky Tinashe began her musical career as one of the members of the girl band, The Stunners.

To date Tinashe has released three solid bodies of work titled In Case We Die and Reverie both released in 2012 as well as Black Water in 2013. She is currently working on her latest project which is set to be released later this year. If you have not heard about this lovely songstress just yet, you will probably become a fan overnight. It does not take much to gravitate towards her sound and admirable personality.

Tinashe told Hustlegrl.com that the best advice she has received to date came from Liza Minnelli while she was eating at a Mexican restaurant in New York. She told her to “Have one person you trust and one person who checks up on that person.” She laughed as she thought about how honest and crazy Liza can be. When it comes to mentors and people she looks up to, Tinashe said “my parents have been great role models.” Being of Zimbabwean, Irish, Norwegian and Danish ancestry, Tinashe believes that her multi-cultural background plays a huge role in the music that she produces. She is open to all genres and embraces many different sounds because she was exposed to many art forms while growing up. She cites artists like Sade, Michael Jackson, James Blake, and Christina Aguilera as major musical influences.

There are many things that set Tinashe apart from most of her music counterparts such as her ability to dance, direct her own videos, as well as write her own music. She considers herself to be a perfectionist and enjoys having a hand in every part of her creative process.

More recently, Tinashe has collaborated with School Boy Q on her single titled  2 On. She has also worked with Boi-1da who she says is one of her favourite producers. Tinashe told us that the most memorable thing about recording her upcoming album would have to be her trip to London. She recalls eating at a restaurant and ended up in the British hospital for the duration of her trip. It also serves as a reminder that we are not always in control of our situations and sometimes we are forced to take a break. With that being said, expect her upcoming project to be worth the wait. In the meantime, check out her latest release here.
