Fully Wholly Collection: Disney Collection

POSTED ON: June 27th, 2009

Because the kids don’t play….and Bryan Espiritu is back with another one. Do you not see why I admire this man’s work? So so so creative. One day I shall be like him. If you missed the past Fully Whollys, check them out below.

Fully Wholly: Air Yeezy Collection
Fully Wholly: The Simpsons Collection

This collection of Whollys is based on the loss of innocence. It’s based on our neglect for the children around us, and how many of my generations childhood experiences so differ from those of the youth growing up today. I wanted to take the most recognizable children’s icons and create awkward, intriguing, and somewhat disturbing juxtapositions to a poem that I wrote to accompany the set.

1867.com: Plan BE: Bryan Espiritu

POSTED ON: June 23rd, 2009

My friend and mentor Bryan Espiritu currently has a feature up on 1867.com. If you don’t know about Bryan Espiritu, you better get familiar ay ess ay pee (asap). Here’s an excerpt from the article:

Fortunately enough this is not the case for Espiritu. With TheLegendsLeague as the backbone for IdeallClothing Espiritu has been able to survive the rinse cycle, as early in the fashion game as he is. This is a rare occasion where the colour may fade, but the quality remains because it’s more about the message on the shirts than the threads holding the fabric together. As Espiritu explains, “It is really more than clothing. For those who care about that it’s always gunna be around and it’s always gunna mean something,” and because of that selling product has always been easy for him.

By making sure the pieces he creates relate back conceptually to something in his life he has been able to reach other people. Even when he first alerted Myspacers’ to meet him at a spot in downtown Toronto called China Doll to purchase a shirt of “The James’s,” which celebrated the lives of James Brown, J Dilla, and Rick James, his product flew fast.

Fully Wholly: Air Yeezy Collection

POSTED ON: June 5th, 2009

I was looking at my Twitter timeline & Bryan tweeted this link. I love his work and it is simply amazing. I didn’t know what Fully Wholly was so I just got put on. Check out everything below. And I quote…

To celebrate the release of the 3rd Air Yeezy at LiveStock Toronto tomorrow, I put some work in to create 3 Air Yeezy Wholly’s. This is actually the SECOND collection of Wholly’s I completed while in LA. Stay tuned for the release of the 1st and 3rd collections.

What’s a Wholly?

A “Wholly” is a stylized character who is composed of a base or shell that generally has 4 holes in it. Those 4 holes provide me with endless possibilities to solving graphic problems. I use the base or shell as a canvas to create the character, and the holes to act as ports to extensions of the character.

www.FullyWholly.com

For the Yeezy Wholly’s I used the shutter shade texture inside the bear ears, and used the feet to display each shoe.

I hope you guys enjoy them.

IdeallClothing LLadies: Oneliner Design

POSTED ON: April 12th, 2009

Here’s a look at one of the Ideall Clothing LLadies designs. It’s a oneliner that I did of the word Ideall and the Ideall Boy logo with an eyeliner pencil. In graffiti terms it would be a tag or throw-up that is completed in one non-stop solid line without having to stop the flow of the can for line breaks. In my terms it’s some dope shit for the lladies that have always been showing me non-stop support.

Bryan Espiritu pushed and inspired me to start using Adobe Illustrator. He is a hard working man, a great mentor and always on top of things. LLove it.

Happy New Year: Kind words from the GRL

POSTED ON: January 1st, 2009

2009karla

I’m gonna try to keep this as short as possible. It’s 4 hours and 21 minutes into the new year and I just got home from Church. The pastor took mad long by the way, LOL. I wanna thank EVERYONE for giving me a great year and for showing love, inspiring me, giving me advice & looking after me. I met a lot of dope people and people who changed my everyday life. I won’t lie, 2008 was an eye opener for me. I got to see what this industry is about, the type of people that are involved and the fakes fuckers you will come across. Anyhow, I’m gonna keep this as positive as I can, lol. I have a list of people I want to shout out and say thank you:

Bryan Espiritu: Bryan oh be. , where do I start? First of all, I love you! lol, you are the best mentor ever and appreciate every little advice and tips you’ve ever given to me. Thank you for being there for me when my brother got shot over the summer. You stuck by my side and made sure i was okay all the way through. That just proved to me how real you were. I was able to cry out to you and you answered. Love u lots xoxo

Jessica: My dominican gyal from Hollis, Queens, New York! It’s been like 4 years since I’ve known you and I haven’t even met you yet :[. Buuuuuttttttttt our bond is so strong its crazy! Ooga Mooga Nigga! I could go on and on and on, but then this entry will become a dedication to you.

(It's actually 2:12pm now, I knocked out last night.)

Dimplez: Hey short girl, I've know you ever since we were 7 years old and we're still tight as hell. I had a great year with you and I was happy to contribute tips to your love life haha. Remember when you came over to do my hair and you ended up sleeping the whole weekend? Word, that was the best weekend ever. We laughed for 72 hours straight for no reason. I'd play dead and make you carry me from one end my room to the other LOL. Ahhhh mn, bare jokes. Love you shorty.

Anais: Imbecile, sale nègre. (that's french by the way). I love you soooooooooooo much. You're my bestfriend and you already know it. I don't even know where to start for this year. We didn't fight a lot, unless it was about DHD (Dick Head Daniel) lmao but he's a cool boyfriend anyways. I loved coming over and having dinner with your family. We cracked bare jokes and I loved having to understand your mom's broken french/english/dominican accent. You're my girl, my sister, and a great friend.

Lissa Monet: My industry mommmmyyyy, we met this year and connected instantly! I miss the summer walks we took for lunch while I was at Chris Smith Management. Thank you for listening to me when my brother got shot over the summer. We went to go eat lunch at New York subs and I just spoke my thoughts away. Love you for that baybay. Oh and, THANKS FOR BEING A DJ AT MY SUPER SWEET 16! :]

Habon: My Somali princess! We created our little language that only we can understand. Thank you for being real and for keeping me occupied in French & Accounting class. You already know I got you when it comes to anything. The highlights of this year was when we watched Def Comedy Jam on YouTube together. Chris Tucker was the besssstttttt “Eh Tito, Is that my hoe sitting over there on tuhe cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurve?” Lmaoooooooo. Ah man, I love you HabOn.

Hanna: My Somali princess #2! Ms. Khalif, Khalifa, Hassan, Hoyotha. I had a great year with you although you changed schools for a bit and came back. Thank you for letting me give you “the talk” every now and then. Thank you for trusting me with your word. Thank you for being the somalian girl you are. xoxo

Future The Prince: Oh big brother bear, my Somalian Prince aka Mr. YYZ, lol. Thank you for being a DJ at my Super Sweet 16 this year. Thank you for keeping me up to date with the Drake stuff, lol. Thank you for caring for me and giving me advice and showing me the real side of this industry. Thank you for putting your trust in me and thank you for believing in me. I love you lots! Watch out for me in 2009, you’ll be proud of me.

rez: Chyyyyyeaaaaaaaaa. 2008 has been a great year with you and the team. Being on board with Famous and the clique has been amazing. I’ve learned a lot about the marketing game and what it takes to reach out to the public and it’s been nothing but success thus far. You’re not only a great business parter, but you’re a great friend. Thanks for all the rides back & forth and thank you for all the times you took me out to lunch tehehe :]. Studio times at your place are the best! It’s 2009 and we’ll be on a grind.

Famous: It’s the kiiiiiiiiiiidddddddddddddddddddddddddddd, Famous! Oh man, where do I start. First of all, you’re a thorough dude for real. A man of your word and you fulfill all your promises. You’re an amazing artist with a business-like brain that crushes all the other artists in Toronto! Thank you for hosting my Super Sweet 16. Highlight of the year. I’ll always be down for you and you know I got you. It goes both ways. 2009 man, 2009.

Boi-1da: Another big brother from another mother hummer lover. I am so proud of you. This year was soooo wondeful for you. Congrats on all your success and for being the best producer in Canada. Trust you got a lot more coming your way. I miss beating you at Halo 3 on the Xbox Live though. Remember when me, you, Young Tony, Gibbzy, Staxxx and everyone else would all play? Haah, that was fun. Stay up and keep deep deep deeeeeeeeep inna ya heart!

Addy: One of my many favourite Filipinos. You’ve introduced me to a lot of dope people. You are the network King! lol. I had a dope year with you and I appreciate all the little things you’ve done for me from introducing me to C Williams, to picking me up from school, to driving me home from Remix, etc etc. Remember when you threw that mini BBQ at your house for my birthday and you ended up dropping me home at like 1AM? My dad was so mad and you had to come in the house to apologize. Rich Kidd, Fresh & Royalz stayed around the corner so that my dad wouldn’t think I was in a car full of boys, lmao. That was too jokes. Although I got grounded, we still threw that Super Sweet 16 of mines. Thank you so much for organizing that with the rest of the team. I have the utmost respect for you and everyone else that helped out.

Drake: Drizzzyyyyyyy. First of all, you’re the best favourite rapper ever. What other fan gets to talk & chill with they favourite rapper whenever they want to? haha, Although you couldn’t make it out to my party, you still made that birthday video for me. You should of seen my face when they played it at my party. This year has been so so good for you and I’m proud of you. Keep grinding and keep doing you. January 15 my nigga. Proud of ya boy, proud of ya. Love you lots, Thank me Later 2009 ;].

T-RexXx: Ah man, you are the most chill individual ever. Always keeping it real and cool. Thank you for hooking up my internship over at Chris Smith Management. That has been and still is great. It has helped me in many ways and you’re the man behind that. Keep smiling sunshine!

Willyboo: Willllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, hi. You’re the coolest photographer in town. The thing I love about you the most is that you never let me roll with you at the 19+ parties, lmao. “Will, is this party 19+?” and you say “Yes Karla, you can’t come” Grrrr. You’ve always been yourself and I want you to stay that way. Speak your mind and just do you. Don’t worry about the rest of the people. Thank you for takin up the job to document my Super Sweet 16 with your photography skills. You’re the best. xoxo

Lola: Lollipop Lola. All I gotta say is that I’m excited to work with you in 2009 manngggg. You have a bright future and I see it. I’m probably not the first one to say it, but you’re a woman of your word and I appreciate you for that. That long ass 5 hour meeting we had at Second Cup was so fun that I didn’t end up going to the gym lol. And that Hot chocolate with whipped cream on it as sooooooooooooo good. From ATL to TO, you’re still my Lola. Say hi to Lil Yung Berg, lmao. Muah!

DJ Wristpect: Respect the DJ, Wristpect is the DJ. Bomb bomb. Honestly, I must say, you’re a pretty ill DJ you know? Lmao, let me stop. I had fun with you at The Remix Project and I loved going in the Art of Business room to bug you. Sorry for leaking your Drake exclusive for you Bridging the Gap mixtape :[. Remember when there was that show the Dundas Square and you had to go? I brought a couple of my friends to your car and we took 100 CDs to flip to the crowd. They weren’t even put together yet. So we went inside the mall, sat down and put the CD inserts & CDs into the CD case, walked back to Dundas Square and gave em all out withing 5 minutes. That’s love right there. Keep doing you.

DJ Smartiez: Although I call you DJ Smartazz, you know it’s all love. Having you work around the corner from my internship has been bomb! It’s always fun to come bug you at your amazing job at Bell during my lunch break. You’re a good individual that’s always there to hail me up. Good looks homie.

Shouts to all the stores that let me kill time with them while I was around their way. LiveStock; waddup Los, Auggie, Skam, Andy & (i forgot the other guy & girl’s name, sorry), Dream Design; Dream & BossLady, RANSOM; Oliver, Andrew & Jason & The Lounge; Taurean & Alize! Queen and Spadina is really the spot to work at for really real.

If I missed you out, sorry! Just know that I got love for you . It’s 4:19PM now and I’m done with this post. Have a GREAT and BLESSED 2009. Keep a look out for me y’all.

Karla,
xoxo
