I showed love to Famous, now I’ma big up the director. Director David F. Mewa accepts nomination for his first Much Music Video Award (MMVA) for his breakout music video FAMOUS – AIN’T NO USE. Canada’s television and music industry recognizes this burgeoning director in it’s BEST HIP-HOP VIDEO category. “It is an honor to recieve my first ever nod in this category, Hip-Hop is an important part of my life.” says Mewa. MUCH MUSIC honors the best in Canadian and international music videos annually in a nationally televised award show that draws thousands to its outdoor celebration. The 2009 MMVA’s will be televised on Sun June 21/2009 at 9pm EST. Mewa will travel to his hometown Toronto to be in attendance.
With almost 2 weeks until the release of “DIRECT DEPOSIT” (in stores/iTunes June 2nd, 09), Tona unveils the artwork & tracklisting for his upcoming masterpiece along with a promotional video teaser featuring Tona & Lyve directed by Chris Ak/LVD Certified.
Shad’s got a new vid for “Compromise” coming out at the beginning of June. The director – Christopher Mills – cut this prelude to the video using some really dope extra material from the shoot, and added in the audio from the Outro on Shad’s “The Old Prince”.
The poem in this piece is written and performed by Ian Kamau who is an incredible spoken word artist / emcee from Toronto. Shad’s album “The Old Prince” drops in the US on June 30th – which coincides with the 2009 VANS Warped Tour (Shad will be playing on all 46 shows across North America this summer). Melanie Fiona is the next hot thing out of Toronto. Her single “Give it to me right” is killing the air waves right now and I’m proud to see another Canadian artist do their thing south of the border. She recently signed to Universal Motown & is currently working on her upcoming album The Bridge.
I’ve always loved this song and it’s been on repeat for a while. I’m glad the video finally dropped. This is another one directed by Aaron A. Gotta love his cuts. It’s finally here and it’s all I’ve been bumping since it dropped. As one of the most renown underground artists in Hip Hop Nickelus F as endured the hardships of the music industry and life. Heathen is his story and outlines his trials & tribulations while dealing with the reality of the streets of Richmond, Virginia. Nick’s name may be new to a lot of people, but the industry has been watching his grind for years and he’s been working his whole life for this record and is proud that he has gotten the opportunity to give his story (in music) to the people on his own terms.
